Deburring
Well, It's 1 week in, and it's already tiring.
The aluminum in the kit has a few steps that all parts need to run through, doing them over and over and over again is already getting quite boring, but it's a strict necessity. For me, that workflow goes:
- Remove the blue tape on any parts facing the inside. On skins, remove a 1-inch strip along the inner holes.
- Separate / cut if needed
- Debur edges
- Scuff with red scotchbrite
- Assemble according to the instructions
- Match drill
- Dimple
- If match drilled or dimpled, re-debur the edges.
- Disassemble
- Wait until 'priming day'
- Clean with denatured alcohol
- Prime
- Wait 24 hours for primer to 'set up'
- Actually follow the instructions
For those counting at home, that's 13 steps that need to happen before the instructions are even executed on! Of course, I could simply drop the middle 4 instructions, and do the dimpling and match drilling afterward. This would save me 2 steps, one assembly and one disassembly.
Addendum 4/28. Only after I'm writing this did I find out that in most parts of the empennage that vans will dedicate a step to tell you to go prime stuff. While this changes the order of operations, it doesn't really change the size or nature of the list itself.
